Recently, Shenzhen MTC Group released an official Weibo account stating that in 2024, Shenzhen MTC Group Chairman Gu Wei will personally take charge of expanding the Mini LED COB backlight module production line, with the goal of building the world's largest COB backlight module factory.

In 2025, Mr. Gu announced that Mr. He Shengbin, Vice President of the Group, will concurrently serve as Chairman of Shenzhen Optoelectronics. The three major smart terminal display businesses of Shenzhen Zhaochi Group, namely display terminal business, COB direct display business and Mini LED backlight business, will be integrated. In addition, Shenzhen Zhaochi Group will fully empower Shenzhen Zhaochi Optoelectronics and fully support the development of its Mini COB backlight business.

From the perspective of the industry, Mini LED backlight projects have increased significantly this year. After experiencing rapid growth in 2024, Mini LED backlight has a good start in 2025. The triple resonance of technology, market and industrial chain has accelerated the iteration of Mini LED backlight and established confidence in the industry.

Taking the information disclosed by the official Weibo of Zhaochi as an example, in 2024, Zhaochi Optoelectronics will add 45 COB lines, with a total of 50 COB lines , and simultaneously improve the product layout of Mini COB backlight modules, including high-power COB white light strips, Mini COB blue light strips and Mini COB white light solutions (CSP).

MTC is not the only manufacturer that is planning and promoting production expansion. In less than two months into 2025, Mini LED manufacturers such as Corelight, TCL Huarui, HKC, and Ruihua Optoelectronics have successively disclosed the progress of their projects.

Among them, Ruihua Optoelectronics is also expanding its production project and stated that orders for the first quarter have been fully booked. Two production lines in the Mini/Micro LED production workshop resumed work ahead of schedule on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. The workshop has added 16 production lines this year.

Companies are accelerating production and expansion, demonstrating their increased confidence in the Mini LED backlit TV market. At the same time, companies' large-scale production can help reduce costs for Mini LED backlight and accelerate product iteration.

Judging from the multiple projects in the above figure, the number of Mini LED COB production lines has increased significantly. TCL Huarui, Zhaochi Group, and Hongming Technology all have information indicating that they are COB production lines, while Xinleguang and Ruihua Optoelectronics are the key manufacturers of Mini LED COB.

According to the data of the "2024 Mini LED Backlight and Automotive Research White Paper", the proportion of COB in 2024 will increase compared with 2023. The increase in COB proportion mainly comes from the optimization of solutions and the promotion of downstream terminal brands. In terms of solutions, COB adopts the light bar mode, which effectively reduces the cost from substrate materials; in terms of downstream brand promotion, terminal TV players need products different from POB solutions to enrich their product system. Driven by both parties, COB solutions have achieved rapid development.

In 2025, the industry will accelerate the construction of COB projects. With the expansion of production by manufacturers and the upgrading of COB technology, Mini LED COB will continue to increase its proportion in 2025.

The construction of COB production lines is not only driven by market demand, but also by the development of COB light strip solutions. The Mini LED COB solution has achieved rapid cost reduction in the past three years, cooperating with chips, backplanes and other links to adapt to market demand.

At present, the industry's Mini LED backlight solutions are still being upgraded, such as the RGB-LED solution recently demonstrated by Hisense. On February 19, Hisense officially demonstrated the RGB-Mini LED TV 100UX in China, and announced that its 116-, 100-, and 85-inch RGB-Mini LED TVs will be officially launched at the AWE exhibition in March.

The RGB-LED solution directly uses RGB three-color chips to integrate LED modules to achieve a display effect without missing the three primary colors of RGB. In 2025, Hisense and Samsung respectively demonstrated RGB-LED backlit TVs and said they would be launched this year.

With the rapid development of technology and the continuous iteration of products, the industry will enter a new stage of development. The collaboration of the LED supply chain can also quickly respond to new technology needs, becoming a key driving force for the upgrade of display technology and promoting the continuous development and iteration of the industry.
